Scott Chiu

AUDIO/VIDEO ENGINEER

As the founder of Portable Recording Studio, Scott Chiu brings professional recording studio experience to various venues. Mr. Chiu has recorded GRAMMY Award-winning artists. Mr. Chiu specializes in mastering classical and jazz tones.


Mr. Chiu uses transportable state-of-the-art recording equipment. He records audio and video by using:

CLARINETIST

Scott Chiu currently plays 2nd clarinet with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and is featured in Lisa Bielawa’s “Broadcast From Home” project. He can be heard on radio stations such as NPR and BBC. As a solo clarinetist, Mr. Chiu has made appearances on the "From the Top" radio show. He is a two-­time winner of the Young Musician Foundation of Colorado solo competition, concerto competition winner at The Denver School of the Arts, winner of The Jefferson Solo Ensemble competition, and was featured as a soloist at the Colorado Music Education Association conference. Mr. Chiu has collaborated with artists such as Danny Elfman, Christopher O'Riley, and Larry Livingston. Orchestrally, Mr. Chiu was selected to perform in the Manhattan School of Music Centennial Concert, Pinchas Zuckerman's 70th Birthday Celebration, and the world premiere of Cendrillon by Nicolo Isouard with the Manhattan School of Music Opera Orchestra. Noteworthy venues in Manhattan that he has performed at include Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and The Riverside Church. He has also toured in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and The Czech Republic with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.

ARRANGER

Scott Chiu arranges pop music for clarinet quartet and has collaborated with several instrumentalists such as Ken Kubota, Sophia Griswold, and Jason Friedman. His ambitious projects involve producing engaging videos, where he directs, performs, and choreographs the different scenes. He edits video footage and also uses cloning techniques.  

TEACHER

Scott Chiu is a passionate teacher and enjoys interacting with children. He worked at The Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School, where he taught several clarinet students in elementary school. Also, he has experience caring for kids through volunteering at Chang Gung Children Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.


EDUCATION

Scott Chiu holds a Master's Degree from The New School, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Summer programs that he has attended include The Decoda Skidmore Chamber Music Institute, Hidden Valley Music Seminar, and Rocky Ridge Music Camp. His primary clarinet teachers are Charles Neidich, Alan Kay, Wesley Ferreira, Andy Stevens, and Donald Ambler. As for audio engineering, Mr. Chiu has studied privately with GRAMMY Award-winning artist, Elliot Cole.
